You can also find out how to apply to the Community Fund, which makes funds available for local community causes every year. In 2023, Peel NRE contributed £50,000 to the fund.

Community Forum

Community Forum

The Protos Community Forum is made up of local representatives and provides a link between the community and the project team. You can raise questions or issues by contacting your local Community Forum representative.

The aim of the Community Forum

  • Provide an effective forum for the discussion of all matters concerning the development and operation.
  • Consider and respond to any question in connection with the development and operation as it affects the communities represented or the amenities of the neighbourhood.
  • Make suggestions to the management of the development and the operators on any matter connected with the administration, development and operation of the which could further the interests of the communities represented.
  • Stimulate the interests of the local population in the development.
  • Have regard to the interests of the users.
  • Protect and enhance the interests of the community and surrounding areas.

Community Benefit Fund

Community Benefit Fund

The Protos Community Benefit Fund makes funds available for local community causes every year. The benefit fund is open to bids for funding from organisations and causes in the parishes of Ince, Elton, Helsby, Frodsham, Thornton le Moors and Little Stanney. Transport, community buildings, sport, youth, and heritage are among the wide range of causes considered.

Here are some of the causes we have already supported:

ELTON PARISH COUNCIL

The fund has helped Elton Primary School make a number of visits to a variety of the best North West cultural attractions. The children visited Chester Zoo, Deva Roman Centre, Jodrell Bank, Imagine that Science and Discovery Centre and Beeston Castle, providing enriching and cultural experiences and lasting memories.

THORNTON PARISH COUNCIL

The Parish Council successfully applied for funding which has enabled new playground equipment to be installed in the parish. The equipment was installed in 2018 and has proved a big hit with local children.

ST LAURENCE FRODSHAM BELLRINGERS

The St Laurence Frodsham bellringers are a group of people who meet every week to ring the church’s historic bells. The eight bells ring for a wide range of services and as such dedicated practice is required. When the group needed some new practice equipment, we were happy to support their application for a grant to fund it.

Air Quality

Air Quality

A subgroup of the Community Forum was set up to look specifically at the issue of air quality related to the Protos development, including:

  • Appoint an independent air quality advisor to the group (appointed and produced a study)

  • Consider proposals from Cheshire West and Chester Environmental Protection on the type of monitoring for the development that has been agreed

  • Oversee the implementation of an air monitoring system

  • Consider reports and review progress on a regular basis

  • Provide objective information and feedback to the local community on air quality issues with the aim of dispelling worries or concerns that may exist in the community
