Ince Bio Power

Plot 3 & 9a

Status: Operational

Description of facility: 22MW Biomass Plant which uses commercial waste wood which would otherwise go to landfill to produce energy for over 42,500 homes.

Operator: Bioenergy Infrastructure Group (“BIG”) is a specialist owner and operator of waste wood and waste to energy solutions. BIG is establishing the UK’s largest portfolio of waste wood and waste to energy facilities, which will have the potential to divert over 1 million tonnes of waste each year from landfill and deliver vital additional electricity capacity to the national grid, helping to meet demand from industry and households across the UK. Taking a long-term approach and targeting mid-scale facilities throughout the development cycle, from greenfield sites to those already in operation, BIG has established a market leading position by leveraging its experience and speed of decision making to achieve the level of portfolio scale, diversification and operational synergies required to attract institutional capital into UK bioenergy.

Protos Energy Recovery Facility

Status: Under Construction

Description of facility: The Protos Energy Recovery Facility located on Plot 8 at Protos is being developed by Encyclis to provide 400,000 tonnes of annual treatment capacity for non-recyclable waste, further enabling the UK to achieve national self-sufficiency in managing waste and compliance with landfill diversion targets. In processing non-recyclable residual waste, the Protos Energy Recovery Facility will generate up to 49 megawatts of electricity – enough to power 90,000 UK homes.

Construction of the new facility commenced in December 2020 and the plant is expected to be fully operational in early 2024. Construction & commissioning of the facility is being undertaken by a joint venture comprising Mytilineos S.A. and Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH, who together have an excellent track record in delivering infrastructure projects in the United Kingdom and around the world.
