Driven by industry, Net Zero North West is driving investment into the net zero economy with the aim of being the world's first new zero industrial cluster by 2040.
The bold vision for the North West could see £207bn invested in the region, which will turbocharge the UK economy by £285bn GVA and safeguard or create over 660,000 jobs. The Net Zero North West Cluster Plan sets out a clear roadmap to decarbonisation with a series of interventions that will save 17 million tonnes of CO2 from industry every year.
The North West is the only region which already has all the elements required to deliver a net zero industrial cluster by 2040 – including renewables, hydrogen, carbon capture usage and storage, nuclear and smart grids. With an unrivalled range of projects, the Cluster offers a multi vector energy system that can drive clean growth.
The North West Hydrogen Alliance brings together some of the UK’s most influential organisations driving forward the work to develop the region as the UK’s primary hydrogen economy. The region’s reputation as the industrial North – including the necessary industries, academia, innovation, skills and natural assets – means it is in pole position to grasp the opportunity of hydrogen use.
Origin is one of the most important industrial and employment clusters in the UK, including 1,300 businesses and employing 24,100 people. Covering the industrial area and Ellesmere Port, including Protos, it aims to be a global leader in energy and industrial decarbonisation. It's part of the momentum to secure even more inward investment in the expansive industrial heartland, in turn supporting the green industrial revolution to deliver one of the the world's first Net Zero Carbon Industrial clusters.
