Visitors to Harmers Wood, Helsby are able to learn more about the area and special points of interest thanks to a new set of information boards.

The boards were recently unveiled by The Friends of Harmers Wood after the original ones were damaged or vandalised, with some even disappearing from the woodland area.

Harmers Wood is increasingly used by the general public for walks and by climbing groups. It also welcomes schools and scout groups who use it for educational purposes and activities. Volunteers are often asked for information about the wood and are now able to point visitors to the new boards.

The information boards have been provided thanks to the Protos Community Benefit Fund who donated just over £1600. They will help visitors appreciate all that Harmers Wood has to offer from walking trails, thriving vegetation, local history and a plethora of birds, bugs and other wildlife.

Teresa Summers, Chair of The Friends of Harmers wood Trust, said “We’re really pleased with the new information boards. They look great and I’m sure will enhance people’s enjoyment of the wood. Our volunteers are already finding that they’re an excellent resource when talking to visitors and will help local people learn more about this precious woodland.”

“We’d like to thank the Protos Community Benefit Fund for enabling these boards to happen and it’s a great example of how local businesses and community groups can work together to enhance the local area.”
